Being one of the great green sanctuaries on the island, Penang Municipal Park that is fondly known as Youth Park (Taman Belia) is popular with locals and tourists. Also known as Taman Perbandaran Pulau Pinang, this recreational park can be accessed via a single traffic road from Persiaran Kuari off Jalan Utama.
If you miss the former junction into Persiaran Kuari, drive along Jalan Utama and continue on Jalan Kebun Bunga on the direction heading to Penang Botanical Garden. In less than 300 m after the right turn into Jalan Gottlieb, you can't miss a large open parking bay next to a Hindu Temple. Park your vehicle here and take a couple-minute walk opposed road traffic, to reach the park.
Originated as a spot where Penang youth congregated for skating and outdoor stage performance in early 1970s, Penang Municipal Park today caters for all walks of life. The best public on the island, this oasis comes complete with everything. From a cafe that operates from dawn until dust, sizable clean and free bathrooms with shower facilities, indoor gyms, surau (prayer room) as the outdoor workout equipments along the trails sprinkled over the park, children pools, water fountains, archery field, mountain bike trails, football field cum multipurpose field, reflexology track, basketball courts, roller blading rink, skateboarding rink, children playground, camping ground and an outdoor auditorium! To add a touch of adventure, there are also a few hiking trails going up to Penang Hill!

Through out the day, the park is never lonely. As dawn breaks in, fitness enthusiasts flock to set their journey uphill. Packs of tai-chi or qi-gong practitioners gently swinging their arms and bodies to welcome the sun of the day. Families with kids come by before lunch, making several strokes with badminton racket to sweat or watching the kids playing on the swings, slides, teeter-tooter or just running around freely.
